Here are some great suggestions for parents during e-learning days: - If possible, set up a designated place for students to do their school work. This should be away from electronics and other distractions. - Students should create their own schedule for the day. (We discussed how students may be helping out more at home during this time, so the schedule should reflect when they are able to successfully work on assignments.) - Write out the schedule, then you'll be more likely to follow it. - Start with your favorite class or assignment. This will help motivate students to start their day. - Don't forget to include break time for a quick energy boost. This should include a snack and some movement.

Cold and flu-like illnesses continue to be reported among the students and staff. Here are a few things to keep in mind to help prevent cold and flu like illnesses within your family. . Teach your children to wash their hands often with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand rub. Cover up coughs or sneezes using the elbow, arm or sleeve instead of the hand when a tissue is unavailable. Do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands Teach your children not to share personal items like drinks, food or unwashed utensils Know the signs and symptoms of the flu. Symptoms of the flu include fever (100 degrees Fahrenheit, 37.8 degrees Celsius or greater), cough sore throat, a runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, and feeling very tired. Some people may also vomit or have diarrhea. Please report any of the above symptoms to school. Keep sick children at home for at least 24 hours after they no longer have signs of fever (without using fever-reducing drugs). Keeping children with a fever at home will reduce the number of people who may get infected. Do not send children to school if they are sick. Any children who are determined to be sick while at school or contagious to other students will be sent home. For more information visit www.cdc.gov/flu/protect/children.htm

Hello Swartz Families! I would like to provide a quick update on our power outage. We continue to experience a power outage at Swartz. We are continuing to run the school day as normally as possible. We have access to plumbing, normal food/lunch service, and our emergency lighting is on. I have visited all of our classrooms and our students are doing an amazing job! ComEd has estimated that power will resume within the next few hours. We will continue to provide you with updates as they become available. Please call me at 630-234-9781 if you need immediate assistance. Sarah Smith

Salt Creek School District 48 conducts a free developmental screening of preschool-aged children (ages 3 to 5, not yet enrolled in kindergarten). This screening is open to all preschool-aged students who live in District boundaries, regardless of future preschool plans. Screenings are conducted at Salt Creek Primary School, 980 S. Riverside Dr. in Elmhurst. Appointments are necessary and can be made by calling the school’s office at 630-832-6122. Screening appointments are available for August 30th, September 27, November 1, January 10, March 13, and May 22. The screening process helps identify how your son/daughter is currently developing and is also the first step in registering your son/daughter in our preschool program. Assessed areas include: speech and language, large and small muscle groups and social/emotional development. It is conducted by professional school staff in a variety of pleasant playroom situations and takes about one hour to complete. If you have any questions regarding screening for children under 3 years old, please contact Child & Family Connections at 331-481-4263.

If your student currently has medication at school it needs to be picked up before the end of school. We will not be able to keep it in the nurse's office through the summer. New blank medication permission forms, asthma action plans and allergy plans will be sent home at the end of school. Please make sure you get these filled out over the summer for the 2019-2020 school year.
