District Headlines

Teacher Appreciation Week runs from Monday May 2 through Friday May 5, 2016.  Please join us in thanking our teaching staff for their hard work with our District 48 students!

As with all school districts in Illinois, Salt Creek School District 48 will be engaged in the annual state mandated achievement testing program (PARCC-Partnership for the Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers) in April and May, 2016.  All students in grades 3-8 will take these tests in the areas of English/Language Arts and Mathematics. Our "window" for these assessments is April 4 - May 13, 2016, so SMS and AMS have their own specific schedules for the assessments that they will make families aware of.  Students at SCS do not take these assessments. The testing format has changed from two testing periods in 2015 to just one in 2016, and all testing is done online.  We receive the results of our assessments as part of the School Report Card that comes out in the fall. If you have questions about the PARCC, please contact the SMS, AMS or District Office.

District #48 Registration Packets for the 2016-2017 school year were mailed out Friday, March 18, 2016.  Please watch for this paperwork to arrive.  All forms must be filled out in their entirety (front and back) and fees must be paid by April 29th in order to complete the registration process.

Registration for the fall 2016 preschool program at Salt Creek Primary School will begin on March 18, 2016 at the school, 980 S. Riverside Drive, Elmhurst.

Classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.   Registration is encouraged on this day to secure a spot in the program.  However, children presently enrolled in the preschool program will be given continued enrollment advantage.

The program is open to children who reside in the Salt Creek School District 48 and will be 3 or 4 years old before September 1, 2016.

Please call the school office to obtain the registration packet, which will be mailed to those interested.  In addition, three proofs of residency are required to register, along with a copy of the child’s official birth certificate.

For additional information, preschool hours, and fees, please call 630-832-6122.

Kindergarten registration will begin on Thursday, March 3rd at Salt Creek Primary School, 980 S. Riverside Drive, Elmhurst.

Children must be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2016 to be eligible for kindergarten.

Three proofs of residency are required, as well as the child’s OFFICAL BIRTH CERTIFICATE.  Packets of information and required forms may be obtained by calling the school office at 630-832-6122.  Parents in Salt Creek School District 48 are asked to share this information with their neighbors who have children who are eligible for kindergarten.  If there are questions, please call the school office at the number above.

District 48 will conduct a free developmental screening of children age 3 to 5 years at Salt Creek Primary School, 980 Riverside Drive, Elmhurst, IL, on March 18, 2016.  Children must live in the district, but not be currently enrolled in kindergarten.  Appointments are necessary and can be made by calling Jamie at the Salt Creek Primary School office, 630-832-6122 ext. 4001.

The screening process identifies how the child is currently developing.  Assessed areas include:  speech and language, fine motor skills, social/emotional development, and pre-readiness skills.

The screening is conducted by professional school staff.  The screening takes approximately 60 minutes.  Screening results are shared with parents within a week of the screening.

Our FTC (Families, Teachers, Children) organization is hosting the annual Enchanted Evening Dance on Friday evening February 5, 2016 from 7:00-9:00 pm at Albright Middle School in the large gymnasium.
